District Attorney Unveils Startling Details in Charlie Kirk Murder
In what was described as “a US disaster,” prosecutors presented a chilling account of the alleged killing of rightwing activist Charlie Kirk.
A Premeditated Attack
Per prosecutors, Tyler Robinson had become consumed by animosity for Kirk and his beliefs. Authorities allege Robinson orchestrated the attack in a little more than a week after learning Kirk would be appearing at Utah Valley University.
Digital Communications Reveal Admission
The state say Robinson sent his housemate texts admitting to the crime. In one conversation, Robinson reportedly wrote, “I seized the chance to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
“Erase this exchange,” Robinson allegedly texted in one communication.
Murder Weapon Details
Authorities believe a bolt-action rifle owned by Robinson’s grandparent was used in the shooting. The weapon was subsequently found in a adjacent area wrapped in a towel.
Multiple bullets were found with the weapon, every one engraved with provocative messages.
Political Reasons
According to testimony from Robinson’s mother, the suspect had recently grown increasingly ideological and started leaning toward progressive views, embracing LGBTQ+ rights.
Robinson had also started dating his housemate, a man who was undergoing a gender transition, which allegedly caused tension within his household.
Arrest and Accusations
Robinson was arrested on September 12 and charged with aggravated murder. The district attorney announced they will pursue the death penalty.
Authorities say Robinson’s own mother recognized him from media photos of the suspect and notified authorities.
Court Proceedings
The suspect had an initial hearing on Tuesday, with a preliminary proceeding scheduled for September 29.
Prosecutors stressed that the details presented are only allegations at this stage and acknowledged the grief of Kirk’s family.
“As with any homicide, the senseless taking of Charlie Kirk’s life has shattered the lives of those he cherished,” said the prosecutor.
